Pittsford Town Justice, Fred Gallina, has recently announced that he is stepping down from his post and will retire from public service. After a great deal of thought and consideration, Gallina has decided to vacate the position of Town Justice to address some ongoing health issues.
Gallina has served as Pittsford Town Justice since 1998.
“After spending more than a decade serving the Pittsford community, I have decided that it is time to step down as Town Justice,” said Gallina. “It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve the Pittsford Town Court over the course of my tenure, and I would like to thank all of my outstanding colleagues for their support and friendship.”
“I would like to personally thank Judge Gallina for his many years of service and dedication to the Town Court and the entire Pittsford community,” said Pittsford Town Supervisor William A. Carpenter. “His experience and expertise will be greatly missed. Although his leaving is a great loss for the Town of Pittsford, I wish Fred the very best as he enters retirement.”
The Pittsford Town Board will appoint a qualified individual to serve out the remainder of Justice Gallina’s term, which expires at the end of 2011. The appointed Town Justice will be required to be on the ballot this November in order to continue serving beyond 2011. Supervisor Carpenter is actively seeking members of the Pittsford community who have experience in the legal profession and would like to serve as Town Justice.
“Clearly, Justice Gallina will be an extremely tough act to follow. In order to select an interim Town Justice who is best able to fulfill the duties associated with this position, I am reaching out to our community to help assemble an exemplary pool of candidates to put before the Town Board,” continued Carpenter. “I strongly encourage any qualified, experienced, and motivated legal professionals to submit their resumes for consideration.”
Interested candidates should submit their resumes to the Office of the Pittsford Town Supervisor no later than January 14, 2011. Justice Gallina’s retirement will be effective at the end of December. Questions can be directed to the Pittsford Town Supervisor’s Office at (585) 248-6220.
