All roads throughout the Town of Pittsford have catch basins within the concrete gutters to carry away storm water. Each year a number of catch basins are
replaced as part of the capital improvement of our local highway system while a number of individual catch basins are replaced as part of our ongoing maintenance program.
Catch basins are typically improved using concrete risers that help adjust the height needed for proper drainage flow. In 2009, the Town used approximately 125 risers. During the past few months, our highway team created a new maintenance initiative which has enabled the Town of Pittsford to cut the overall cost of this process. The Highway Department now can build these risers in-house, as opposed to using an outside vendor. Their effort has saved the Town approximately, $50-$80 per riser. It is anticipated that this new initiative will save the Town of Pittsford between $8,000 to $10,000 annually.
