In the Town of Pittsford, we have fifteen (15) crossing guards assigned to thirteen (13) locations. Crossing guards are posted in front of all schools and on
high volume roads frequently used by students (i.e. Barker Rd., Calkins Rd., Fairport Rd., West Bloomfield Rd.). Each crossing guard wears a bright yellow vest, holds an 18 inch stop sign and tries to be highly visible to motorists. Each guard stands on the crosswalk line ready to cross students or pedestrians during their allotted shift time. At locations where two crossing guards work in unison, motorists will see one guard positioned on each side of the street (i.e. Mendon High School and Park Road School).
While driving, please keep in mind that some crossing guards are working when visibility is at its lowest (i.e. sunrise and dusk). It is imperative to drive slowly and cautiously through crossing areas. By driving slower, you will keep our students and crossing guards out of harm's way.
