Town to unveil new Electric Vehicle charging station this Tuesday, 9/19

Accomplishment marks fourth goal toward “Clean Energy Community” status

On Tuesday, September 19 at 5:15pm, Town Board members will unveil Pittsford’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging station, located in the municipal parking lot at Main and State streets near the lot’s Main Street entrance.  Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Pittsford Town Councilman Matt O’Connor, the Board’s lead for the project, will be joined by Councilwoman Mary Gehl Doyle to cut the ribbon and demonstrate how the charging station works.  Councilman Jared Lusk, Councilwoman Kate Munzinger and Town Supervisor Bill Smith will also attend. The EV charging station will allow for charging two electric vehicles at a time.

The new EV charging station is the last milestone in the Town’s qualification for State designation as a “Clean Energy Community.”  This State program encourages and assists municipalities in reducing energy usage, reducing greenhouse gases and in pursuing other clean energy measures. The program is administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA.

To qualify as a Clean Energy Community, a municipality must accomplish four “high impact practice” goals from a list of qualifying goals published by the State.

The EV charging station is the fourth goal accomplished by the Town.  When unveiled next Tuesday it will be ready for use immediately.
