NEWS FROM THE TOWN OF PITTSFORD For Immediate Release: September 15, 2015

CSX railroad project to close Monroe Avenue in Pittsford September 20 - 23

Town given six days’ notice of closure

Pittsford, NY – Just yesterday the Town of Pittsford received notice that CSX Transportation will close a portion of Monroe Avenue in Pittsford for up to four days next week.

CSX will close Monroe Avenue in order to accommodate construction at the grade crossing by the Monroe Avenue canal bridge in the Village. The street will close at 5:00AM on Sunday, September 20 and is expected to re-open during the day on Wednesday, September 23. CSX advises that delays in the work imposed by inclement weather could extend the closure.

The detour will divert eastbound traffic to Clover Street (Route 65) at the intersection of Monroe and Clover in Brighton, then east on Jefferson Road (Route 252) to South Main Street (Route 96) in the Village and north on South Main to the Four Corners in the Village. Westbound traffic will follow the reverse of the same route. A contractor for CSX is responsible for posting detour signs and we are advised that signs will be posted shortly.

Local traffic will be permitted on Monroe Avenue, but there will be no access into or out of the Village by way of the Monroe Avenue canal bridge.

Pittsford Supervisor Bill Smith commented, “It’s a cause of serious concern that the Town of Pittsford and our residents are given just six days’ notice for a disruption of this magnitude. Clearly this project has been in the planning for many months, if not a year or more. That our first word of the project came not from CSX, but from one of its contractors, gives rise to additional concern. Our residents deserve better than this from CSX.”
