The NYSDOT Traffic Monitoring Section has placed traffic counters in various locations on local roads in Pittsford and will be conducting traffic counts this week (August 25 - 29) during the weekdays for a 72 hour period at each location. The counters and road tubes located on these roads are recording how many vehicles pass each site.
These sites were randomly chosen by NYSDOT and are all on local roads, at locations that have never been counted, or at locations that have not been counted in some time. By counting roads like dead-end streets and cul-de-sacs, NYSDOT seeks to obtain counts that statistically represent all roads of these types across the state. NYSDOT is collecting data for its annual reporting to the Federal Highway Administration of statistically estimated Vehicle Miles of Travel on the entire Local Roads System. This year NYSDOT will collect data at approximately 10,000 new sites across New York State in order to increase the number of samples on the Local Roads System.
