The Pittsford Town Board voted to appoint attorney William K. Taylor as Town Justice during their board meeting on Tuesday night (1/15). Mr. Taylor’s appointment will take effect January 28; he will serve through the remainder of 2013, at which time the position will be up for election. The Town

Justice position was open due to previous Town Justice William A. Smith, Jr. resigning to accept an appointment to the Pittsford Town Board.

“We were fortunate to interview several accomplished and highly qualified candidates for the Town Justice position,” said Pittsford Councilman Matthew J. O’Connor, who served as Chair of the Town’s selection committee. “However, due to his extensive legal experience as a prosecutor, judicial law clerk, and top attorney in the County Law Department, Bill Taylor stood out as an excellent match for our needs. Through his service to the Pittsford community as a Town Zoning Board member, Rotary Club member and coach for numerous local youth sports, Bill also has a unique understanding of and commitment to our residents and our values.”

Mr. Taylor has served as a law clerk at the New York State Court of Appeals and U.S. Court of Appeals under the Honorable Richard C. Wesley, as an assistant Monroe County district attorney, and as Monroe County Attorney. He is also an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Roberts Wesleyan College and serves on the board of trustees of the Monroe County Bar Association.

“It will be my privilege and honor to serve as a justice for the Town of Pittsford,” said Taylor. “I am proud to live and raise my family here in Pittsford, and I am humbled by this opportunity. As Town Justice, I will commit to upholding the law with fairness, impartiality, compassion and firmness in each and every decision.”
