A MESSSAGE FROM SUPERVISOR SMITH

On Octtober 23, 2020 we marked a major milestone in our commitment to improving walkability, cycling and pedestrian safety, with the official opening of our new East Avenue sidewalk.  The sidewalk runs 10,900 linear feet, from the Brighton town line to the Village of Pittsford, providing a safe route into the Village business district for residents, students and visitors.

The two-phase project was funded in part by a $537,966 State Grant secured by State Senator Rich Funke; the balance was funded by the Town. My thanks to Senator Funke - his support helped ensure this project became a reality.  Our Highway and Parks staff performed a significant amount of the project work, thereby keeping project costs down.  To our staff team – thank you for your outstanding efforts and top-quality work on this project.  Thanks as well to our project design consultant MRB Group; their assistance with project planning and NYSDOT approvals were indispensable to the project.

Walkability is central to quality of life and to the commercial success of the Village and the entire Town.  Our policies to promote walkability, bicycle-friendliness and a more sustainable future will carry forward into 2021 as we begin to implement recommendations from the joint Town-Village Active Transportation Plan.  We’re proud to unveil this major step toward these important goals.

A final thanks to those who were able to join us at the official opening: Gloria Hunter of Senator Rich Funke’s office, State Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes, Deputy Town Supervisor Kate Bohne Munzinger, Town Justice Robert Shaddock, Village Trustee and Walk Bike Pittsford founder Renee Setzer, Steve Schultz of MRB Group, and Town staff members Engineer Robert Fromberger, Public Works Deputy Commissioner Jim Gagnier, Commissioner’s Assistant Renee McQuillen, Public Works Commissioner Paul Schenkel, and Highway General Foreman Scott Wallman.
