LEONARD S. FREEDMAN NAMED 2012 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

The Pittsford Town Board has selected Leonard S. Freedman as Pittsford’s 2012 Citizen of the Year. The Board passed a resolution honoring Mr. Freedman at its meeting on Tuesday, February 5.

Leonard Freedman has been a member of The Town of Pittsford’s Parks and Recreation

Advisory Board since 2003 and has served as its Board Chair since 2006. He also previously served on the Town’s Community Center Advisory Group. “For years, Len has been an invaluable advocate for developing and enhancing Town trails, parks, facilities, and recreation programs” said Pittsford Town Supervisor Sandra Zutes. “He’s a committed and knowledgeable advisor to our staff and we are so pleased to be able to honor him in this way.”

In addition to his role in the Pittsford community, Mr. Freedman has contributed his time and effort to improve the quality of life of others in the Greater Rochester area and beyond. His many efforts include committed and effective leadership roles with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Greater Rochester Commission, the Center for Dispute Settlement, the Institute of Ethical Leadership of the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, AIDS Rochester, and the Mental Health Association of Greater Rochester.

The board resolution noted Mr. Freedman was recognized for his “tireless capacity for good works and volunteerism, to the great benefit of our community.” “We are so fortunate to have Len Freedman as a member of our community” said Supervisor Zutes. “His generosity, humility, and unfaltering spirit of giving make Len an outstanding role model of true civic dedication for Pittsford residents and all those he encounters.”

The Pittsford Citizen of the Year award is presented annually to a Pittsford resident whose hard work, generosity and dedication has improved the quality of life in the Pittsford community.
