The Town’s Port of Pittsford Park has been renamed in honor of former Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Carpenter and is now William A. Carpenter Park at the Port of Pittsford. The new park sign and dedication plaque were unveiled June 21 with the help of Mr. Carpenter, who was not

aware of the naming honor until the unveiling.

“We told Bill we were unveiling new signage for the park and wanted to recognize not only his leadership in the park’s development over the years but also his role in creation of the current Pittsford Town logo, which will eventually be on all of our park and facility signage,” said current Pittsford Town Supervisor Sandra Zutes. “We wanted to surprise him with the naming honor.”

“As Town Supervisor for 19 years, Bill made a lasting and positive impact on our community,” Zutes continued. “His fondness for our Port of Pittsford Park and his dedication in creating our Veteran’s Monument there made this naming honor an ideal way to recognize his efforts.”

The recognition also included a plaque set in stone at the park which dedicates the park to Mr. Carpenter. It reads:

“This park is dedicated by the Town of Pittsford in honor of and deepest appreciation to William A. Carpenter, Town Supervisor (1994 – 2012). His vision and outstanding commitment to the Pittsford community has made a lasting impact for the better upon all those who live, learn, work, visit and do business here. We count among the many achievements during his tenure:

- Greenprint for the Future

- Pittsford Community Library

- King’s Bend Park

- Pittsford Veteran’s Monument

- Port of Pittsford Park Enhancement

If you seek his monument, look around.”

Bill Carpenter joined the Town of Pittsford staff in 1980 as Deputy Commissioner of Public Works, becoming Commissioner of Public Works in 1983 and was elected as Town Supervisor in 1994, serving as such through 2012. He is currently the Deputy Executive Director for the Monroe County Water Authority.
